Meet Rhonda and Greg
For the past six months, Rhonda has been coming to Parker’s daytime senior care program in Monroe, and it’s quickly become a highlight of her week. She has made new friends over breakfast conversations every day and loves to participate in group exercise programs that keep her physically active. In her own words: “The people [that come here and work here] are so good… I love it here.”
Rhonda loves music too – whether it’s songs from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, she lights up when she hears a familiar tune. If you were to spend a day at the program, you would probably see care partners singing “Help Me, Rhonda” by The Beach Boys alongside her. She looks forward to activities based around music and dancing, which usually happens at least a few times a week.
And when asked how it affects her well-being? She beams a smile and says “I feel happy at the end of the day.”
Greg, Rhonda’s husband, has found the program to be “wonderful” for both of them. As Rhonda’s caregiver, the time she spends at Parker allows him a chance to recharge. “It gives me some time to regenerate,” he shares. “It’s much more meaningful than just watching TV all day long.”
Greg has also found value in the caregiver support groups offered by Parker. The most important thing of all, though, is how he feels about Rhonda’s quality of life since joining.
“When she’s here, I know she’s being kept busy. Not only does it make my life a little easier, I see how it helps her. When I pick her up, I ask her how things were, and she always tells me she had an amazing day.”
