This Manhattan School of Music program explores the 20th-century shift in American music, from folk roots to acoustic experimentation. A teaching artist from Manhattan School of Music will highlight composers like Copland and Gershwin and will examine their influence on pioneers such as Cowell and Cage. They will also discuss the social factors that sparked this movement, which has led to the fusion of music, visual arts, and dance.
